The thought of volcanic activity usually brings to mind exotic places locations like Vesuvius or Mount Pinatubo, but volcanoes in Terrace? Although the volcano has been dormant for centuries, evidence of earlier destruction remains today in the Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park, about 100 km (60 mi.) north of Terrace. Take a driving tour of the park with a self-guiding brochure, or register for the 3-km (2-mi.) hike with a naturalist down to the volcanic cone to explore and learn about this 250-year-old lava flow in the Nass Valley.Terrace Travel

While out in the wild, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a white Kermodei Bear. Native to the Terrace area, these white-furred black bears are extremely rare in the rest of the world. If you do see one, consider yourself lucky! Back in town, be sure to stop in at Heritage Park. Browse pioneer artifacts, and discover the secrets of Terrace's settlement days as tour guides dressed in period costumes lead you through the log buildings of days gone by.
